Does anyone out there have any idea how many ONLINE poker players are registered
voters. Numbers or percentage wise?

How about a roll call among rpgers?

Registered voter or not?

Why do I get the feeling that only the yes side (registered voters) will reply

Yes, I vote now that I'm old and responsible. For many years after
JFK's and Robert Kennedy's assassinations, I stopped caring about what
was going on in politics. The first time I voted after that was when
Ferraro was nominated for vice-president. During these last 8 years,
it has been difficult to witness the deterioration and the changes that
have occurred. I still plan to vote, though. This next election is
crucial if we're to have any chance at all to change the course we're
on.

Why would someone obviously not interested in voting
be so interested in conducting a poll on registered voters?

Touche ;-) In my defense, I figured the certificate would be a good
conversation piece... My donation was the price I was willing to
pay for said conversation piece ;-)

Me too, so much so that I had payed to sign up with the PPA to help
fund the fight! ;-) I proudly wear my t-shirt when I go out on the weekends.

Did you do your part yesterday and call your senator's office?
I spoke with an assistant in Dole's office and after my spiel, asked if they
were
getting a lot of calls related to the online gambling ban... her response: "a
lot!"
Hopefully some good comes from it, we'll just have to wait and see.

If you don't already know, you wouldn't understand or accept any
explanation I could give here.

Maybe you could explain to him how Jimmy Carter started a national
entitlement program (WIC) that was in place nearly 3 years before he
took office.

Of course. It's irresponsible not to vote. Have never missed an election

And they're very happy that you joined.

Poker Player's Alliance claims to be 100,000 strong in membership now.

What does that mean?

Well, I assume the majority of the membership came from Party Poker
offering the 25,00 instant bonus to join, which paid the 20.00
membership fee, got the player a T-shirt and had 5.00 left over to play
with. I would imagine that most of those didn't really join for any
other reason except to get the extras. Most may not even have known the
purpose of the PPA anyway.

That brings us to the purpose.

100,000 members at 20.00 means that the PPA collected 2 million
dollars. They sent you a t-shirt that probably cost $1.50, printed.

So what did they do with the 1.8 million dollars? I don't see them
spending any huge money fighting the bill against online poker. but
i'll leave that question for each to determine.

Yesterday the PPA name was used to promote a phone march sponsored by
pocketfives.com.

I read an article about a poll that was done by calling each senators
office to determine how many calls they received yesterday about the
gambling bill. The survey estimated that all 100 senators received a
total of 5000 calls. That's an average of 50 calls each. The survey
showed some got more while others got less.

Pocketfives.com boasts 18000+ members and PPA boasts 100,000 members,
yet only 5000 calls were made.

Something seems amiss.

Enjoy your T-shirt.

The following link describes when he signed this program into law.

No less than $2.00 for the t-shirt, another buck for the emblem, another
50c for the keychain and membership card.

Pocketfives promoted PPA's phone march dummy.
Some of the 1.65 million was used to pay for the

I am not a registered voter. There was a time that I voted at every
opportunity. Then I went into developing/managing apartment buildings in
The Bronx which attracted the extreme attention of the local politicians.
For 20 years I handled most of my company's relations with them and that
brought me into the 'rubber chicken' circuit and I came to know them well.
Whereas most were decent folks I saw what politics turned them into.
They may have started out with the best of intentions but as time goes on
they become warped and despoiled by the ravages of the necessities of
political life. Get to know politicians well and it's like being with
some kind of mutant with a God complex mixed with a horrified sense of
insecurity. They only want one thing. Survival as a politician. And
they will do anything to survive. Every now and then one of them will
recover his humanity and take a principled stand and then be immolated on
the pyre of the publics' stupidity. The punditocracy may take short
notice but then that fellows' carcass will lay wasted by the roadside,
ignored and disdained. The desire to vote for any of these creatures
drained out of me.

Speaking from experience sir?

I was in the garment business for 30 years. You can buy blanks in large
quantities for under a dollar. In Florida and other tourist areas they
sell printed t-shirts 3 for $10.00. You think that they are losing
money? They make a killing.

No, the reports say supported by pocketfives.com and other forums, so I
don't know if they helped financially, but I assume they do, just as I
would think Party and other sites may have a hand in helping. Also, pay
the phone calls doesn't add up to much when you're using 800 numbers.

Actually, yes. I have a friend in the screen-printing business and
have had custom t-shirts made in the past.

Maybe 30 years ago ;-)

Yes, selling a few thousand t-shirts.
Their profit on the 3 for $10 isn't as big as you think.

Yes, they support the PPA Phone March... the name of the event
in itself should have told you who championed the event, no?

> so I
> don't know if they helped financially,
They didn't. The supported the idea and were free to pass the
information along to others... the initial e-mail I received about
the event came directly from PPA, I then received it again from
a number of forums and poker rooms that decided to forward
the original PPA message.

> but I assume they do, just as I

Which is why it's called the PPA Phone March.
Smart assumption.

> Also, pay
> the phone calls doesn't add up to much when you're using 800 numbers.
Hmm... ;-) Ever try getting your own 800 number?
Do you know why it's free to call an 800 number?
Hint: the entity you are calling pays for the call.

Oh, I did research... just didn't find any 'survey' or 'poll'
estimating 5000 calls total.
Everything I found made it look as if the march was a big success.

That qualifies as a poll? You realize the guy that conducted this
'poll' did so in the middle of the day while calls were still coming
in, right? It reads more like a blog than a news story... that being
said, how did this official 'survey' wrap up?

<quote>
For those who enjoy Internet Gambling, I sincerely believe that the
"phone march" today was a great success but I wouldn't stop now.
I strongly advocate repeating this process once per week until the
Senate recesses for good this year.

Nice.

LOL, you pay retail. i thought you said you do research?

http://www.blankshirtstore.com/tshirts/?ref=AdW&c=1&g=43&kw=blank%20t%20shirts&gclid=CJix06iWrIcCFTrAJAod5wpsJg

There's link for blank t-shirts for $1.53 and that's retail to the
public. How much do you think they paid? Below is a link to buy 100000
t shirts for $0.25.

No sir! Smile all you want. And don't do any research.

They make plenty.

Not really. Party Poker could pay for the entire thing and wish to keep
their name out of it for the obvious reason.

They know there are gullible people like you that won't suspect.

And you know different - for a fact? We already know you're not very
good at research.

Yes, I've had 800 numbers for years. Have you?

So contacting the senators secretary and getting an honest answer as to
how many calls came in doesn't qualify as a poll? why not?

If she says 50 or so calls came in, she doesn't mean 500. there's no
reason to think that her answer doesn'y qualify as accurate.

You just want to continue spewing questions without giving answers
because you don't do tour research.

Nope, you're not alone.

There are quite a few morons that are of voting age that don't bother
to register to vote and express their opinions where it has a chance to
count for something.

As far as I'm concerned a citizen that doesn't excersize their right to
vote is a worthless citizen.
