Allen CunninghamCan't Post

Is anyone else really sad that all of the attention on the WSOP
coverage goes to the loud, crass, douchebags while a solid, talented
pro like Allen Cunningham gets relegated to the occasional blurb
between outbursts? I realize that people don't actually tune-in to see
a quality professional sitting quietly and playing great poker. I just
hope that I could be half the gentleman and card player that Cunningham
is someday. Is there anyone here that knows him personally or has
played with him that would care to second this, or maybe disagree?

he is what a poker player is suppose to be

a gentlemen that rides the fluctuations quietly in the knowledge that he will
get the chips in the LONG RUN  as long as he continues to make correct
percentage decisions.

i have played with him.......didnt beat him out of anything either :)

While he may not get the TV time that other "pros" do, his solid play
has been rewarded by a solid pile of cash. If I had the choice between
the notoriety of some screaming idiot and the tournament record of
Cunningham, I'd pick the latter.

Exactly. The goal of poker is to win money. You don't get paid anything for 15
minutes on ESPN being a jackass.

Try telling that to Phil Hellmuth. Yes, he is an outstanding player with
the track record to support his boasts. However it's his behavior that
made him stand out and has earned him all the publicity which he has
managed to capitalize upon with his books, videos, site endorsements,
personal appearances and who knows what else.

PH was doing his antics long before poker exploded with Moneymaker
winning. He is who he is and makes no apologies for it (well, sometimes he
apologises). He has taken advantage of the poker explosion by taking his
"image" and taking it to the tenth degree. His record in the wsop ans his
overall tourny skills cannot be ignored by anyone who understands poker.

I have heard, but cannot confirm since I have never met him in person,
that away from the table he is a very likable guy who goes out of his way
to be nice. Unless the camera is on him of course.

lol.

Away from the table Phil can be very nice. We have several mutual
friends, although i would consider Phil more in the acquaintenance
category with me rather than a friend.

Years ago, early 90's Phil and his wife Kathy both came to
Shawano/Keshena with their infant son and played poker with our regular
Green Bay area group. I have also crossed paths with him many times at
other tourneys and he always remembers me by name.

A few years ago at Canterbury Park he was there with his mom, dad, and
sister. He made a point to introduce me to all of them,

However, i have also been at his table during tournaments - that is a
totally different Phil.

Re: Allen Cunningham [In reply to]Can't Post

I played with Cunningham before and I was able to take one pot from
him.
The blinds were 2000 4000 in wsop 05 event #2, i had 100k he had 60k
directly on my left.

My image is tight tight aggressive.

I get AKx in MP, and make it 12k, he calls me, flop is Ad Qd Td - i
check to Alan and he bets out 14k, i check raise him to 54k total and
he mucks real quick.

This was basically the only hand i played with him other then some
small pots in the blinds (where he won all of them , so i just mucked).
I sat next to him for a good 3-4 hours during day 2 and just marvelled
at how he was able to accumulate chips without ever showing any cards.

Yeah, well maybe if he actually won and didn't choke like a bitch
people might actually give two shits about him. No one remembers the
losers.
